Caribou Hunters:
2007 Bull Caribou taken by a self-guided drop hunter
Our self-guided, "Extermely Remote Fly-In" caribou hunts are fully outfitted and we even supply a two-way radio for safety and convenience. We supply the tents, cooking & eating equipment, tarps, cook stove & fuel, sleeping pads, salt for your capes, pepper for your game meat, bear spary and much more.
We drop our Alaska caribou hunters into units 17, 18 & 19. Most of our late season caribou hunts take place in unit 18. The Iliamna area of Alaska used to be the place to hunt the famous “Mulchatna Caribou Herd”; however the main herd changed its migration pattern about five years ago. The main herd is now located in hunt unit 18 during late August and September. Self-guided non-resident caribou hunters can only hunt in unit 18 in September.
We offer self-guided caribou drop hunts from Septemeber 1st through September 15th for non-residents and through the end of September for resident hunters.
Hard antlered caribou racks start to become available after September 1st.
On our caribou drop hunts, we would suggest that you plan a seven-day hunt, with five full days or more of hunting.
The average cost to fly from Anchorage to a small western Alaskan community where our packages begin, and return, runs about $360.00 to $400.00 per person. (This is normally an open ended non-restrictive airline ticket.)
You will normally need to stay overnight in a western Alaskan community for one night during your caribou hunting in Alaska trip. The cost will run about $75.00 for the night, per person. The cost usually includes one supper and one breakfast.
You can get lucky and harvest a wolf, black bear or wolverine while on an self-guided caribou hunt, depending on the area you hunt and the time of year. In some cases you may catch fish in the caribou hunting area as well.
We do have several openings for the 2008 caribou hunting season. However, if you want to get the dates that will work best for you, do not wait to long in making your reservation as we only take so many hunters each year.
When you book a hunting or fishing adventure with Adventures In The Wild we supply the following:
The cost to ship fish, game and/or antlers from the western Alaskan community’s back to Anchorage runs about 27 cents per pound. The cost to ship a moose or caribou rack from Anchorage to your home town will run about $50.00 to $150.00 depending on the airlines you fly with. Excess baggage normally runs about $50.00 to $80.00 per box or bag from Anchorage to your hometown, if you meet the airline requirements.
Motels in Anchorage will range in cost from $50.00 to $75.00 per night, per person, based on double occupancy.
Hopefully the information above will help you understand what we have to offer.
