Idaho Guided Elk and Big Game Hunts!

Idaho Bull ElkIdaho Bull ElkThis is truly a back country hunt in the Salmon River Mountains. We hunt units 20 and 20A in the “River of No Return” wilderness area. The elk and deer hunts are conducted out of tent camps at 8,000 ft. of elevation during September, October and November. Over the years this hunt has produced many outstanding bull elk, buck mule deer, black bear, cougar, moose and rocky mountain bighorn sheep.

In 2004, one of the bull elk harvested on this hunt scored 335 B & C and was a 7 x 7, two other bulls scored over 300 B & C with one bull being a 6 x 7 and the other bull being a 6 x 6. Two other 6 x 6 bulls were taken in 2004 as well. Another huge bull was missed by two different hunters in 2004. Past success has averaged 60% and better on bull elk and 90% on mule deer.

2005 was another great year with 19 elk hunters taking 12 bull elk with the largest bull scoring about 340 B & C. Many nice mule deer were taken as well in 2005 by our hunters with one buck having a 31 inch spread. The mountains are rugged and therefore hunters should be in very good physical condition. There is no drawing required on our wilderness hunts, except for the bighorn sheep and Shiras moose hunts. The accommodations during our cougar hunts include motels, cabins, or a lodge.

Three bulls were taken in 2006 that scored between 300 and 330 B & C.Idaho Rocky Mountain Bull ElkIdaho Rocky Mountain Bull Elk

In 2007, we had 12 elk hunters that had opportunities at nine very nice bull elk. Two five point bulls were shot at but were missed and one hunter passed up a five point bull looking for a larger bull. Three six point bulls scoring between 300 and 315 were harvested along with two other bulls scoring between 275 and 290. One rag horn bull was taken by a hunter just wanting elk meat.

Our 2008 elk hunters did very well with some very big elk taken. The largest bull elk harvested was a 9 x 7 that scored 340 B & C. Several 6 x 6's and 5 x 5's were taken as well. One monster trophy bull elk managed to get away after being hit, and thank God was spotted later and seemed to be doing well.
