Dave Mason - Founder
Adventures In The Wild was founded by Dave Mason as a result of his interest in the great outdoors. Dave was born in Minnesota and became an avid outdoorsman by the time he was twenty years old. As a young man, he hunted for small game, upland birds, bobcat, white tail deer and black bear. He had also fished many lakes and rivers in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Now over the past 34 years, he has hunted and fished from Alaska to Newfoundland and from the Arctic Circle to South America.
Years ago, because of Dave’s construction business, every year he was able to afford one or more hunting or fishing trips. Some of the trips Dave went on were very disappointing. After waiting all year to go on an Adventure of a lifetime, (in far too many cases) he would be disappointed by the lack of game or fish, or because he would get taken by some inadequate or dishonest guide or outfitter.
In 1980, Dave decided to start a business that would go around the world researching camps, lodges, guides and outfitters in order to locate honest and sincere operations. By doing this, he felt that he would then be able to put these quality operations and adventures in contact with people who enjoy the great outdoors. Dave has spent over 27 years researching hunting and fishing operations in Alaska, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Africa, Russia, Bolivia, Argentina, the Amazon Jungle and many of the States in the lower 48.
Dave, along with our company Adventures In The Wild, is becoming known worldwide for our knowledge and experience of the great outdoors. Over the years, Dave has been asked by guides, outfitters, and tourism departments (from all over the world) to come and view their hunting and fishing areas and operations first hand. The following is a small sample of some of the research Dave has done: The Sepaq Corporation, which is a Government owned operation, flew Dave to Anticosti Island in Quebec, to view 11 of their hunting and fishing lodges and camps. Dave has traveled to the Amazon Jungle in Venezuela to research Peacock Bass fishing trips, to Newfoundland, Quebec, Northwest Territories and Alaska to research caribou hunting operations. He has gone to Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, Quebec, Alberta, Idaho and Alaska to research black bear hunting operations, to Ontario, Newfoundland and Alaska to research several moose hunting operations, the Arctic Circle to research several polar bear, caribou, wolf, girzzly, and muskox hunting operations, and the list goes on…
Dave has been featured in national hunting and fishing publications such as North American Fisherman, and North American Hunter. He has hunted and fished with well-known outdoor writers and professional sportsmen and women. Dave has appeared on national fishing and hunting television shows, such as, “Outdoor Encounters” hosted by Debra Johannesson & Kevin Geary and “The Sportsman’s Spotlight”.
In 1996, the Mason’s and Adventures In The Wild moved to Wasilla, Alaska. Many research trips have taken place through out the world since the move.
As you can see, my husband is very experienced in the outdoor adventure business, and together, we continue to research new and exciting outdoor adventures on behalf of our worldwide clientele.
In 2002, we researched new hunting and fishing adventures in Alaska, Bolivia, Argentina and Patagonia. In 2003, we researched hunting and fishing adventures in Australia, Canada, South America and more. Many other research trips have taken place since 2003.
